Joanna Davies Reflexology & Reiki Reflexologist & Reiki Master in Pontefract

This is a very exciting new addition to my therapies.

What is Cranial Reflexology?

Cranial Reflexology is a specialised form of reflexology and holistic healing technique that focuses on the areas of the head, face, ears, and neck. This gentle and non-invasive technique is believed to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms and promote overall wellbeing. By applying gentle pressure with fingers and thumbs to specific points on the head and face, cranial reflexology can help to alleviate tension, reduce stress, improve circulation and enhance relaxation.

In addition to physical benefits, cranial reflexology is also thought to have mental and emotional benefits. Many people report feeling calmer and more centred after a session, with improved clarity and focus.

The Treatment - What to expect?

For the treatment you will be lying face up on a treatment couch.

I will start the session by gently holding your head in order to palpate the cranial rhythm#. This will last 4-5 minutes and will help you reach a level of stillness.  I will then revisit this at the end of the session to see if there are any changes.

I will use gentle pressure on your head, working in circular movements or using pressure points on the reflex areas using my fingers and thumbs. Stones may also be used for tapping along the spinal reflex.

There are two options of treatment I offer: the first is for stress relief and general wellbeing – this is a combination of reflexology points and Indian Head Massage techniques – these give an added energy and relaxation.  The second is a full reflexology treatment which covers the whole body on the head. As with all the treatments I offer, Cranial Reflexology can be added to any other treatment.

# What is the Cranial Rhythm?

This is the very subtle inhale and exhale movement that happens in the bones of head. Compression and restriction happen when clients are stressed or have an illness or injury. The gentle techniques of cranial reflexology help to release and open allowing more space for fluid to flow and cranial nerves that may have been squashed to spring back into action, releasing tension.

This treatment can be done on newborn babies with some adaptations for pressure and some of the techniques.  Balancing the cranial rhythm – as most babies enter the world head first having been through pressure and force of being born and in some cases some have had the trauma of a caesarean section.  Cranial reflexology can be very settling and calming.

PLEASE NOTE: this treatment is NOT Craniosacral Therapy (CST) or Craniosacral Reflexology.
